ipc visits hogar de esperanza

The medical team from Memphis spent their final day in Trujillo caring for the kids at Hogar de Esperanza. We got to be there to occupy the kids while the others were being seen. Afterwards we said good-bye to our friends by enjoying seafood and ceviche at Huanchaco Beach. We're already looking forward to next February!

dental floss is a hot commodity
...so are toothbrushes
For the third year in a row, a medical team from Independent Presbyterian Church in Memphis, Tennessee has come to care for the physical needs of communities in and around Trujillo. Twenty-seven doctors, dentists, nurses and volunteers (with the help of translators and pastors who live here in Peru) have been pulling teeth, performing minor surgeries, prescribing medicines, and teaching people about general health and hygiene, as well as providing counsel for those with spiritual needs. The team set up a mobile clinic at five different sites (including the Clementina squatter community shown here) and saw over five hundred patients throughout the course of the week. We are privileged to have such a great relationship with this selfless, fun-loving body of saints. Thank you all for your week of service to Peru!

ipc memphis arrives

We were happy to have the Memphis team here for the first meeting of the new church plant. It was the Memphis team that helped raise interest for the church in Clementina two years ago. We got a picture of the whole team when they came for dinner on Monday night. What a crew! I will try to follow them as they serve the city throughout the week.

campaign slogan

"Agua para todos."--"Water for Everyone." This was the center of Alan Garcia's campaign when he ran for the Peruvian presidency. I found this remnant sign as we were driving down the Pan American Highway. Water. Makes you ponder.

new church plant begins downtown

We are very excited to be a part of a new church plant in downtown Trujillo! Peru Mission has been hoping to plant a strategic, central church for several years. We hope to serve many professionals, young families, couples and university students within the city and through them plant many more churches in and around Trujillo. Over the next eight weeks, we will be working to train leaders who are eager to begin this new project. We will be meeting at Casa San Agustin on Sunday nights for worship services until we start up morning worship on Easter Sunday. Please pray for this important new work.

mudslides trap tourists near peru ruins

Thousands of people have been rescued, but hundreds remain in Machu Pichu and Aguas Calientes, the village closest to the Lost City of the Incas. Parts of the railroad that transports about 400,000 tourists per year to the ruins have been destroyed by flooding. Many homes and businesses have been destroyed and some casualties have been reported. Here's the link to the full story.
