dallas white rock marathon

Well, we started training in August, Josh and I, and we questioned whether or not we would actually pull it off. We started by running around the park in front of our house in order to stay close to the kids. We sensed Peruvian neighbors, construction workers, and taxi drivers looking at us like we were crazy to run around that small square SO many times. The farthest distance we ran around the little park was seven miles, which turns out to be about 40 vueltos (turns), and we finally decided to move to a different place because our inside leg was being over-worked from all of that turning and we were getting a little dizzy. The golf course in our neighborhood was the place we tried next and we've spent much of our free time for the last 3 and a half months plodding along, dodging golf balls, and hoping that no one would snag our gatorade or dried fruit that was hidden away in the tree of life (Yes, that did happen once). I am happy to report that we did it. We ran the Dallas White Rock Marathon and finished it! Josh experienced some major cramping, starting at mile 19 and continuing through, off and on, to the end of the race, but Team Eby pulled through and we crossed the finish line after four hours, thirty-nine minutes and two seconds. Wow, congrats! Tons of determination to even think about running it, let alone getting through it.
