sali conversations begins

It is a big week for Peru Mission! Most of the members of the fellowship program are spending their mornings at the Wichanzao and Arevalo churches, teaching English, playing sports and games, and making crafts with the kids in those communities, while they are on summer vacation. The majority of these kids, whose parents are both working, would otherwise be unattended and running the neighborhood during this time, so for them to have consistent, encouraging leaders to look up to is an enormous blessing to their entire families. It is this kind of slow but faithful service that changes communities-communities that are normally known for their gangs, crime and poverty. We are so grateful for our interns who do their work so cheerfully day after day, hopeful that renewal will take place here, through their words and their hands. In addition to the activities at the churches, in the afternoon, we have begun English classes at Casa San Agustin. This time we are offering three levels of conversation classes taught by the fellows. Everyone has been busy receiving applications, interviewing students, and beginning classes. These classes are a great way to build relationships within the community and to serve Peruvians, for whom English is a great benefit in the job market. We have reopened The Corner Cafe, our little coffee shop. (Can you smell that coffee brewing?) The cafe helps offset costs and provides a relaxed atmosphere for people to gather. To have a place for university students to just be together, is something that we haven't really had before, so we are thrilled to have the doors open to friends both old an new!

I'm encouraged to read about all the good that's happening there.
