tumbaden

Our dear friend Mary Esther is from Tumbaden.  We drove about an hour and a half on windy, dirt roads from Cajamarca, to visit this pueblo of about 300 families.  Mary Esther is one of thirteen children and was raised on a farm in the misty mountains.  We got to see where she grew up and meet her parents and some of her brothers and sisters.  We chased chickens, and watched her sister weave and enjoyed fresh milk from that morning.  We ate two wonderful meals, drank steaming tea, visited, played cards, and watched the rain fall.  Too soon, we had to leave to get back to Cajamarca on the muddy, mountain roads.

We never made it up there. She wanted to take us, but it never worked out. I am soooo glad you all got up there! What a treat! Give her a big hug and tell her hello for us and that we miss her.
Miss you guys!
